Close-Up is a monthly photography series from the lens of Gregory Nolan.
The idea for this series was to take advantage of Portland’s bustling live music scene to create a steady flow of live and editorial photos for THE RADICAL. I’ll be sent backstage for photos to appear in feature stories, as well as attending gigs to capture a quick glimpse of bands pouring their hearts out on stage.
This edition features four bands I worked with in June and July. Some were new to me, and others were bands I’ve known for years. BATTLES played at the Wonder Ballroom. Emmy the Great played at Revolution Hall, and we had a great time exploring the venue and scouting locations for the portraits that appeared in her feature article. Ladyhawke played at the Doug Fir. Fear of Men played at a great (but dimly lit) Mississippi Studios.
